„Let the Kanklės Play”

Since 1998 the kanklės’ music concert “Let the Kanklės Play” has become an integral part of the Lithuanian Song Celebration. For the sixth time it will unite over 800 Lithuanian kanklės players. The generations –pedagogues, schoolchildren, students and enthusiasts of the ancient kanklės – will play together and the kanklės music will fill one of the most sacred spaces of the old Vilnius – the St Johns’ Church. The music performed by both concert and traditional instruments from various ethnographic regions of Lithuania will allow the audience to acknowledge the unique nature of kanklės and its deep performing traditions and to hear the peculiarities of contemporary playing.
