'  |   The Centenary Song Celebration will take place in Vilnius and Kaunas from the 30th June to the 6th July

The Song Celebration “In the dear name of…” dedicated to the Centenary of the Restoration of the independent state of Lithuania to be held  this summer will remind of the living tradition of almost 100 years old and will invite all the people to celebrate the Freedom. All the programmes of the Song Celebration will speak about the values, which strengthen us as the nation and the state, about historical memory, traditions, respect for the homeland, its previous and present creators.

The fame of our very unique cultural phenomenon – the Song Celebration – goes far and wide in the world and each time attract more and more participants and spectators not only from Lithuania, but also from abroad. The Centenary Song Celebration will take place in Vilnius and Kaunas from the 30th June to the 6th July and will present 15 massive performances with 36 000 performers. It will represent one of the most important events commemorating the Centenary of the State.

On the 30th June the first event of the Song Celebration will take place in Kaunas with respect to the city, where the history of the Song Celebration in Lithuania had started as the first Song Day arranged there in 1924. On the 1st July the Celebration will continue in Vilnius by hoisting the flag of the Song Celebration at the square of S. Daukantas where the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė will announce the beginning of the Celebration. The event “Hundred Lithuanians Faces- Let’s Unite Lithuania“ dedicated to the Lithuanians of the World and the national communities living in Lithuania will be held at the square of the Town Hall. In the evening the Celebration will be officially opened by a special event in the Vingis park.

On the 2nd July the Folk Arts Exhibition will be opened at the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Consolation. The exhibition will be available to visitors until the 31st July. The Children Crafts Town near the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania will invite the children to discover and to experience the old Lithuanian arts and crafts.

On the 3rd  July the Song Celebration will present three performances of the Folklore Day. From the early morning at the Cathedral square, the Garden of Bernardinai and the Castles territory almost 400 folk groups and ensembles will perform, sing and dance. A concert of kanklės music will take place at the Church of St John. In the evening a chamber vocal music concert will be held at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall.

On the 4th July 100 Lithuanian amateur theatres will perform in the Garden of Bernardinai and the Cathedral Square. At 10 pm one of the most colourful performances of the Song Celebration, the Evening of Ensembles, will crown the daily programme in the Kalnų park.

On the 5th July Vilnius will be rocked by the buzz of the winds – the concert „Vario audra“ (Copper Storm) at the Vilnius Pramogų Arena. An amazing performance of almost 8000 dancers’ compositions will be presented during the Dance Day at the Lithuanian Football Federation Stadium. The performances will be held twice a day: in the afternoon and in the evening.

On the 6th July the Song Celebration will close up by the Final Performance of the Song Day „We shall stand together“. The three part programme of the Song Day will disclose the essential ideas of the national anthem. The main accent of the Day will be a joint massive singing of the national anthem by Lithuanians in Lithuania and Lithuanians in the World. When thousands of men, women and youth sing together their song becomes a voice witnessing national vitality.
